Creative Scoop

Creativity isn’t a talent that only some people have. It’s something you can strengthen by just creating stuff. The practice of being creative can also reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being. A double win!

So, do you have to know how to paint or draw? No! Sometimes, being creative is about using your imagination to see everyday objects as something new or unusual. It’s about having fun and playing with different ideas!

This packet was designed to give you an opportunity to flex your creative muscles. You can follow the directions below or use them as an inspiration to do your own thing!

Step 1: Save Your Spoon

If you had the chance to enjoy some amazing gelato, you probably have a spoon just waiting to be transformed into something cool! Make sure to clean your spoon (no sense in wasting a single molecule of that yummy stuff). Use some of the liquid sanitizer located near these art packets to clean your spoon.

Step 2: Dress and Decorate

Take a second look at that spoon. Doesn’t the top look a bit like a face and the handle look something like a body? Use your imagination and the supplies provided in this packet to turn your spoon into an awesome character. Pipe cleaners can be used as arms and legs by wrapping and twisting them around the handle. Then use the strips of material to create some cool fashion for your character. You can wrap the material around the arms and legs “mummy style” to create shirts and pants. Or use your imagination to create something really avant-garde! Create a face with the markers provided near the art packet display. PLEASE be sure to return the markers, so others can enjoy being creative! Thanks!

Step 3: Do a Fashion Shoot

Now, let the real fun begin. Imagine you’re the top photographer for a famous magazine, and your spoon character is the next top model! Pose your character and capture those amazing pics. If you’re really feeling creative, use an app to add some text balloons or other details, and then, share your creations with friends. If you use social media, we’d love it if you tag us at @art_equals on Facebook and Instagram.

Things to Think About:

What other everyday objects can you think of that might make really awesome characters?

What activities might your spoon character like to do?

What other objects might make great props for your character? Toothpicks? Acorn caps? String?
